Day 01: Hanoi Arrival – Night train to Lao Cai

On your arrival at Noi Bai airport, you will be picked up and transferred to Hanoi City. Free to relax or take a walk around the Old Quarter. Take the night train to Lao Cai. Overnight on train;

Day 02: Cycling Sapa Half Day: Ta Phin Loop Ride

We start ride will mostly downhill through suburb of Sapa. You pass by Sapa town before heading downhill to Taphin.  In Taphin, you will witness the daily life among the villages and communities of the Red Dao and Black Hmong minorities. You will also have time to take a short walk around the village. You can get on the car for the journey back to Sapa or optional to ride back Sapa by other way.

Day 03: Cycling Muong Hoa Valley: Lao Chai – Ta Van  

You head out from Sapa by going downhill to the villages. The ride takes you into one of the most beautiful valleys of the area. From Lao Chai you turn in a dirt trail, which sneaks through rice paddy terraces and villages, home to different hill tribes such as Black Hmong, Giay. You will have time to stop by a local house as well as enjoy excellent views over huge rice paddy terraces. You will later arrive in Ta Van, where the car returns you to Sapa.

Day 04: Cycling Sapa – Tam Duong – Than Uyen

Cycling shortly uphill as warm up to the Tram Ton Pass, before starting a long descent ride to Binh Lu and ride a truly off the beaten track (jeep track) mixed of hard pack gravel and clay to Tam Duong and Than Uyen; on your arrival, check in the hotel/ guest house for relax and overnight;

Day 05: Cycling Than Uyen – Tuan Giao

Today, we start our 95km long riding with two long pass from Than Uyen to Tuan Giao, one in the morning, and another in the afternoon, with rich forest, limestone panorama, and magnificent rice terraces and breaking scenery. We are welcome by the Thai and Dao ethnic people.

From Than Uyen, we ride on undulating road on the bank of Nam Mit River lead to Ban Trat Electric Power; stop for lunch; then we continue riding along Da River with big dam water reserve for electric power. On your arrival at Tuan Giao, we check in the hotel for relax and overnight;

Day 06: Cycling Tuan Giao – Dien Bien Phu

Today you have more opportunities to enjoy the nice scenery of rice fields dotted by water wheels. The area is habited by White Thai and Kh’mu people in their charming clothes. We arrive in Dien Bien Phu quite late in the afternoon. Check in your cozy room, have shower and dinner. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

 

In case, we leave Tuan Giao earlier, we will arrive Dien Bien Phu around 02.00pm; then it is time for a short city tour; our main stop is Dien Bien Phu Museum which details the event in place. We also pay a visit to the old battle field where the lush vegetation grows behind many war relics including old French tanks and artillery pieces.

Beside Glory Statue, A1 Hill and De Cattery Tunnel are some other sites for your reference.

Day 07: Cycling Dien Bien Phu – Tay Trang Border - Muang Khua

After breakfast, we drive to Tay Trang border. Arrive at Tay Trang at around 11: 00 AM After finish immigration formalities at Vietnam immigration, we take a short drive to Laos immigration (5km) and say good bye to Vietnamese guide and all staffs. You meet Laos guide, after immigration formalities, we ride to Muangkua; Check in and overnight in Muang Khua;

Day 08: Cycling Muang Khua – Oudomxai

Enjoy your breakfast, then we head east in direction to Udomxai province, you should be feel refreshed, although it is a gradual downhill it is up hill in some places but do not worry it is not too steep. There are some excellent photo opportunities of the friendly Khmu tribe and their families. Lunch is prepared by our guide and helpers so we can find a nice spot for lunch stop by the stream. We finish this great riding; check in and overnight in Odomxai;

Day 09: Cycling Oudomxai – Pak Mong

You need to get ready for the hardest day but the best rides of the trip. Today, we ride along Route 13 north, after 5 km from guesthouse the road starts to wind upwards and we start the first of a series of long climbs through high mountains but scenery is perfect. We are in the land of the Hmong (high Lander) who are known as originally live in high elevation in northern Laos, in former time they lived by growing opium. After long climb, we rest on the first peak for water, snacks and seasonal fruits. Then we continue the next 30 km to the second and the third peak for lunch stop, after lunch it is down, down and down as we descend 30 km into the valley, this is a last downhill. At the end of the descent, we arrive our destination at Pakmong, a village that marks the junction at where the road turns towards Luang Prabang

Day 10: Cycling Pak Mong – Luang Prabang

Enjoy your breakfast, then we ride along Route 13 north head to Luang Prabang. Today is the longest day, the road is up and down hill but no big climb, it is easy ride. At kilometer 30 to Luang Prabang we turn from road 13 on dirt road toward the Mekong River at Pak Ou village and visit Buddha caves. Optional riding or driving the last 30 km to Luang Prabang;

Day 11: Cycling Luang Prabang – Kuang Sii Waterfall

After your breakfast at hotel, we hit the bikes for a ride to the stunning Kuang Sii Waterfall. The ride is along a small road alongside the Mekong River passing through small villages, rice fields and forest. At the waterfall, you enjoy a swim, picnic lunch and a visit to the tiger and bear rescue center before riding back to Luang Prabang; Overnight in Luang Prabang;

Day 12: Cycling Luang Prabang – Kiew Ka Cham

After breakfast, we depart from Luang Prabang cycle the way to Kiew Ka Cham passing on the mountain road passing lush forest and many small H’Mong villages that sit dwarfed by the amazing landscape of Limestone Mountains that surround them. Dinner and overnight in Kiew Ka Cham;

Day 13: Cycling Kiew Ka Cham – Vang Vieng

Enjoy your breakfast, then we fill in water and be prepared to get on the bike.  Today is the hard part of cycling with some up hills and down hills. So, we will start a bit early. It is time to relax a bit as the road is largely downhill along a valley from Kiew Ka Cham, a small village on top of the mountain.in the afternoon You will be high in the mountains for the second half of the day following a ridge line up and down with peaks all around. Overnight in Vang Vieng known as the gate to Northern Laos or backpacker's paradise a busy town which packed of young tourist from all over the world because of its charming landscape and variety of fun activities.

Day 14: Cycling Vang Vieng – Nam Ngum Lake

After breakfast, today we prepare for our hard day biking. We stop every 20km for drink and snack stop. Overall route is modulated and steep hill on some part. We will arrive in Nam Ngum Lake, the biggest reservoir in Laos. Dinner and overnight on the edge of Nam Ngum Lake;

Day 15: Cycling Nam Ngum Lake – Vientiane

Today we cycle the last part of the journey to Vientiane the road becomes mainly flat for this ride and you should be in Vientiane late afternoon. If time permits, visit National Museum and former Royal Palace;
